As a scholar, translator, and poet, I regularly collaborate with artists, musicians, and other creative people to bring the ancient world to life.
Currently, I am exploring Sappho’s fragmentary poems and obscure biography, and thinking about how to create music that embraces the gaps, sutures, and fibres of her surviving works. I collaborated with the composer Ro Shapes Tickle on the aleatory choral piece Heart as I, which was recorded by the Marian Consort in London in June 2025 – see below for the video.
I am particularly interested in collaborating or consulting on the following:
- Translations and adaptations of ancient Greek and Latin literature
- Performance pieces (dramatic, musical, artistic) using or drawing on ancient Greek and Latin literature
- Translations of Greek or Latin for films and other media
- Fiction about or set in the ancient Mediterranean world
